Porto Nightlife: Bars, Clubs, Fado, Late Transport and Safety

Nightlife in Porto with bars and music venues after dark

Porto nights work better when you decide what kind of evening you want. A glass of Portuguese wine, a full fado dinner and a 4 a.m. dance are three different plans; do not start at one and hope it turns into another.

For a glass and a proper recommendation: Prova

Prova at Rua Ferreira Borges 86 is a small wine bar and tasting room. The selection covers Portuguese regions, with cheese and charcuterie; tell the staff what you like and what you want to spend instead of pointing at a label you cannot pronounce. Check its site before going, as the weekly schedule can change.

For an event and a late table: Maus Hábitos

Maus Hábitos is on the fourth floor at Rua de Passos Manuel 178: restaurant, terraces, exhibitions and a changing programme of concerts and club nights. It is one of my better “let’s see what is on” places. The kitchen closes before the bar, so eat before midnight or check the current restaurant hours; the events page tells you what is actually happening.

For fado: book the whole evening

Casa da Mariquinhas in the Sé is a dinner-and-fado room, not somewhere to drop in for one drink. Its current booking page sets a €45 minimum spend per person; the first performance starts at 21:00, with more sets through the evening. Reserve and read the payment details on the official page before committing.

For dancing: check Plano B’s night

Plano B is at Rua de Cândido dos Reis 30, near Clérigos. It runs club nights and music events, but the programme matters more than the venue name; check its current listing rather than assuming the music or opening night. The official tourism listing shows late Friday and Saturday sessions.

Getting home

Porto Metro normally stops around 01:00. STCP’s overnight network runs from about 00:30 to 06:00, but routes are not the same as daytime buses. Check the night network map and live times against your actual accommodation before you go out. If the last connection means a long uphill walk, budget for a taxi or ride app. Keep your phone charged and your route home simple.
